Fire Behavior of Building Insulation Materials: TCC 918 Cone Calorimeter Test Results (ISO 5660-1)
This paper investigates the fire performance of building insulation materials with different formulations and colors using the TCC 918 Cone Calorimeter in accordance with the ISO 5660-1 standard. Key fire behavior parameters, including time to ignition (TOI), peak heat release rate (Peak HRR), maximum average rate of heat emission (MARHE), and total smoke production (TSP), were tested under identical laboratory conditions. The results indicate evident performance discrepancies: grey insulation offers superior ignition resistance and stable low heat release; red insulation presents excellent smoke suppression capability; white insulation exhibits the worst fire resistance with fast ignition and intense heat release. This study validates that material composition significantly impacts fire characteristics, delivering standardized test data to support insulation formulation optimization, building fire safety design, and reliable material selection for modern construction projects.
