4. Specimen Preparation Requirements
- Sample dimension: 76mm×13mm×13mm with flat smooth surface; 3 groups of samples required per wood type, 24 pieces per group.
- Sampling rule: Cut samples 0.6mm away from timber longitudinal ends; short timber (below 1m) shall be sampled from the middle section to both sides.
- Sampling position: Cut two parallel strips from upper and lower width surfaces of wood, then cut to 76mm length; central core material is not used for testing.
- Constant mass conditioning before test: Store samples at 23±2℃, 50±5% RH until the mass change of two consecutive 24h weighings ≤1%.
5. Standard Test Flow
- Weigh conditioned sample group with precision of 0.1g.
- Stack samples into a cross-shaped wood crib (12 layers, 2 pieces/layer, 25mm spacing between pieces).
- Power on and reset; the Bunsen burner automatically moves to ignition position.
- Turn on gas supply, adjust flow valve and ignite burner; tune flame height to 250mm.
- Press Run button, burner moves under the heat shield; adjust gas mixture to stabilize hood top temperature at 310℃±10℃, then retract burner.
- Place wood crib on the support bracket, close observation window and start test. Burner automatically ignites the bottom of samples with fixed 3-min flame exposure, then retracts.
- Record flaming combustion time in real time; stop timing once the flame extinguishes.
- After full combustion & glowing decay, cool all samples and residues completely, then weigh total residual mass.
6. Flame Retardant Timber Qualification Judgment Standard
Wood material passes flame retardant certification if both two conditions are satisfied:
- Flaming combustion time ≤ 6 minutes
- Mass loss rate after combustion ≤ 60%
